Our Story So Far

The Story So far ....

Our founding members, Ann Johnson and Phillippa Mulholland identified a need for a weekday, evening community choir for the local area and surrounding villages of Frodsham. After some research on venue and advertising for interest, our first rehearsal took place on 7th October 2019, with 27 people attending. Just 10 weeks after the choir was initiated, we performed our first family and friends’ concert. Over 60 people came to join in the fun and celebration.

The following March 2020 saw Covid19 send the whole country into lockdown and sadly physical rehearsals had to be cancelled. The choir continued on Zoom for a while hosting sing along sessions, quiz competitions and even produced two virtual harmonised tracks with the help of our then Musical Director, Zena Philippou. As the country emerged from lockdown, Zena had to take on additional commitments with the school where she works and is therefore no longer our MD.

In June 2021 we began outdoor rehearsals at the Arts Centre in Castle Park Frodsham in line with Covid guidelines and welcomed our new MD Joseph Mann. As a Musical Director Joe has written a number of original musicals and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with us. In July 2021 we returned to indoor rehearsals at Main Street Community Church in Frodsham Cheshire in the midst of necessary Covid safety measures required at the time. It felt so good to be back singing and socialising with each other again. The year finished on a high performing at local Christmas festivals, culminating in a Christmas concert at St Paul's Church in Helsby.

2022 was a fabulous year. We sang at carnivals and local community centres. We saw the formation of our Care Home Chorus, a smaller group of choir members that have volunteered to entertain at local care homes. We also took on our biggest performance to date at The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn. This was a joint venture with Victoria Music Limited, a musical extravaganza celebrating the life of Elodie Fagan who tragically lost her battle to cancer at an early age. It was great getting to know members of the cast, some of which have remained good friends. Our year ended with a sellout Christmas Concert. Great fun and we are grateful to our friends, family and supporters for coming to see us.

2023 has been a fun year. Our performances have taken us to some fabulous locations. Farndon Soapbox Rally, The Cheshire Show, The Storyhouse in Chester and Arley Hall.

We have welcomed more new members and our sections are growing in confidence as well as numbers.

Our Care Home Chorus have continued to entertain in local care homes throughout the year and over the Christmas season. We held our first Summer Concert, a great success!

We have also had another sell out Christmas Concert. Its great to see so many of our members putting themselves forward for solo and group performances. We have had many social events together throughout the year too. We really are #MoreThanJustAChoir
